The simplest way to find a Windows 7 Product keyis to look inside the Product’s package. How To Activate Windows 7
Windows 7 has an automatically setup activation when you install it. If, for some reason, you cannot activate it you might need to do it manually. You can do it with an Internet connection, your telephone or your modem.
Note: Some of you might confuse Activation with Registration. Just to be clear Activation is mandatory while Registration is not. With Registration you enter information such as your email address to sign up for Product support, tools and useful tips.
Activate Over The Internet
Press the Start button. Right-click on Computer and select Properties. This path will lead you to System Properties window.
Press the “Activate Windows now” link at the bottom of the window.
If you have an online connection the option “Activate Windows online now” will appear.
Enter your Windows 7 Product key. It must have 25 characters.
Click the Next button to activate your Windows 7 copy. The whole process may take a few moments.
Activate By Telephone
Click the Start button, find the Computer, press on Properties and go on System Properties.
Click the “Activate Windows now”.
Choose “Show me other ways to activate” from the menu.
Type your Windows 7 Product key.
Press the Next button and select the option “Use automated phone system”.
Select the region that is closest to you. You will find a list of phone numbers and an installation ID number.
Call the number and you will be transferred to an automated system that will guide you through the activation process. With your phone’s keypad enter the Installation ID.
You will receive a confirmation number that you will enter into the activation window and click Next.
Note: If for any reason the activation won’t work, you can speak with a Microsoft support member.
Activate By Modem
Press the Start button, then Right-click on Computer and select Properties to go on System Properties.
Check the “Activate Windows now” button.
Press “Show me other ways to activate”.
Enter your Windows 7 Product key.
Click Next and choose “Use my modem to connect directly to the activation service.” You may have to enter an administrator password.
Select an area close to you from the list. Then click Next to connect and attempt to activate.
If you have succeeded you will receive a confirmation message.
Windows 7 Activation Error
You have followed the right steps to install Windows 7 but your Product key is not valid and you received an error message. It could be the result of these examples:
Your Product key is mistyped. Try writing it again.
You might have a Product key that is not suitable for the version of Windows 7 that is installed in your computer.
You have a Product key for an upgrade version of Windows 7 and a previous version of Windows wasn’t on your computer when Windows 7 was installed. If you wish to install your Product key you must have an upgraded version of Windows 7.
What Happens If You Don’t Activate Windows?
You have 30 days to activate Windows. If you choose not to activate Windows 7 the operative system will go into a Reduced Functional Mode. This means that certain functions will be unavailable. You will also receive messages that will remind you to activate your copy. The most important thing is that you will lose crucial software updates such as Microsoft Security Essentials.
Will I Have To Activate Windows Again?
You might have to reactivate Windows 7 if you make some hardware changes to your computer, such as upgrading the hard disk and memory at the same time. You may also have to activate it if you reinstall Windows. You will have 30 days to do it.
